MAJOR Suckage!

The next to last words to H out of my mouth this morning were "Don't take anything to school that could get you in trouble." He replied back with a "yes ma'am, I love you." Well, I got a phone call from his teacher a few hours ago. It seems he packed almost everything possible from his birthday and took it to school today. She told me that she was going to put it all in a bag and send it home. I told her "no, we are going to make him "throw it away" and I'll pick it up from you later this week. She did. H called me after school, as always, to tell me the nerve his teacher had for making him throw his things away. I told him that I already knew about it and that he was in trouble for taking it all to school. Especially since he could repeat back to me verbatim what I told him before I left. So, needless to say, he is being a cry-baby right now. Do I care? Of course I do. I care deeply. I promise that it is harder for me than it is for him. But he's got to remember to respect what I ask him to do and to follow the rules at school. His excuse for everything is that he cannot remember or he forgot. But I cannot reason with him on this because the only time he uses those excuses are when he thinks that I'm upset... like it's going to make me feel sorry for him. My only problem is that I don't know what to do to punish him because we had so much planned for this weekend. Is it enough for him to think that he lost his presents? I am at a loss because he never really gets into trouble. I think that I'm just going to let him think that they're gone and I'm not going to let him keep his money from the garage sale until he can prove to be more responsible.
