Okay, I finally ordered our Christmas pictures. After the price of the "package" and the additional fees (which I was not made aware of) it came out to $108.25. I would be fine with that if these were amazingly captivating pictures, but when they are mediocre and over $100.00, it just isn't setting well with me. ESPECIALLY when I found out that their photos are edited with the EXACT SAME program (and YES I do realize that this is Adobe Photoshop
Elements for ONLY $89.99) M has bought me for Christmas and the EXACT SAME camera (they have various lens, while I am currently going to have just two) that M also bought me for Christmas.
Well, I have been reading up on the photoshopping "techniques" because I am on my own now!! Much cheaper that way. ALSO there is a GREAT small business in town that will print them out for me if I need special sizes. For example, Profession Photo Workplace $100.00 for 16 x 24 picture. $200+ for sitting fee, creation fee, and photo package (1 8x10, 2 5x7). Small Business Workplace $25.00 for 16x16, FREE picture taking by Mommy! I think that I am better at capturing my kid's real personality too. They look to "posed" in these pics.
Wish me luck!

3 Amazing Words of Wisdom:
Ouch! I quit taking my kids in for pictures years ago. The one time I took them, I took them to a private photographer (not Sears, etc). I remember my last words before he got started were "oh, my kids are so photogenic. You won't have any problems getting them to smile". They proved me WAY wrong!
I have felt so guilty because I haven't taken my daughter (21 months) for pics since last August (um, 5 months)! But, that's why! The packages are so expensive, and the pictures are hit or miss depending on the photographer and what mood the kids are in that day. They look too posed, they don't smile, the background clashes with their clothes or washes them out. Ugh.
I just got a new camera, so I guess I'll have to educate myself and work on my picture-taking and editing techniques too.
I hope you post the pictures when you're done experimenting. Once we went digital and Mr. Shumway got so good at Photoshop, I realized what a rip-off studio pictures are.
